How BSD characters discovered their abilities

 Hello again, these days I had my mind full of ideas on how every character in BSD discovered their own ability. Since Asagiri gives us very little information on this topic, I will share some of my personal headcanons for some of the characters. 

[I will not make them all because some of them we already know (Kyoka, Atsushi,...) and others have simple abilities to discover, like Kenji or Oda.]

How characters found out they were ability users

Dazai

If Dazai was raised by the PM, I believe that he realized he was an ability user in a really traumatic way. Of course :’). Like someday he was walking with a PM member holding his hand, some minor enemy attacked them and the member couldn’t defend himself because he was touching Dazai. 

Of course no one understood why at first, so this must have happened more than once. And, finally, it was Dazai himself who put it all together and got to the point that it was ‘his fault’. 

So, of course, after this nobody ever touched Dazai again in fear of momentarily losing their powers. Until Chuuya eheheh… :).

Chuuya

I have a really funny hc for the redhead, hear me out. What if one night he was dreaming of being chased or something of that type and he unconsciously started floating in the air. Shirase suddenly waking up and seeing his friend floating and immediately shouting to the others that Chuuya was possessed by some demon. Then Chuuya woke up and simply started to test his newfound ability. 

After that everyone had a higher idea of him and he became the one that protected everyone.

Fukuzawa

The president's ability allows him to control the abilities of his subordinates (which is pretty useful to people like Atsushi who can't control it properly at first).

For this reason, I think that he must have found out really late he could do this. Maybe at first he used only his sword and later with Yosano he found out he could somehow control her ability. 

Yosano after joining the ADA refused to use her ability ever again because she believed it was a means for bad; however one day Fukuzawa brought her out and they happened to walk into a fight (with the PM maybe) in which a common person remained badly injured and Fukuzawa tried to push Yosano to use her ability to save him.

This resulted in her sensing a force to which she couldn’t oppose and she used it. After that she said to him that she didn’t activate it voluntarily and Fukuzawa realized it was him. It took Fukuzawa a long time to figure out how exactly it worked.

Kunikida

No matter what hc you may have, it will always be funny with him. I don’t know if he can use his ability with every piece of paper or just with his notebook. If he can use it with every paper, just imagine a little Kunikida Doppo of 2 years old who scribbles something and suddenly it comes out. He’s the happier kid until his parents found out and they were ‘hey, wth is happening here?’

Instead, if he can use it only with his current notebook, honestly I have no idea how he found out. Like one day he buys a simple notebook, but he decides to write only his ideals there and as soon as he starts writing, something pops out. This would be strange and he would not find out until 10 y.o. at least. Because he is more mature than his age ofc.

Yosano

We know quite a lot about her early use of her ability. However, for me, the first time she found out went like this: her cat was dying and she was so sad that she said “I want you to live!” quite shouting, and the cat was soon up and normally walking again. She thought God listened to her wish and later realized it was her when it happened another 5 times or so. (Idk honestly if her ability works on all living beings or only humans, but the other hc with only humans would be way sadder, so we are fine with this uh).

Tanizaki

Since he can project illusions around him, this is my headcanon. Naomi asked Tanizaki to tell her a story, but he didn’t know what to say. So Naomi just said she would tell it and the brother would act on what she said. Since it was a very fanciful story, Tanizaki just wished he could make Naomi happy and the illusions materialized exactly how the sister wanted. In the meantime it started snowing and they were really happy even if they did not understand what was happening. Tanizaki mastered his ability thanks to his sister’s elaborate stories and support.

Port Mafia members

Mori

We know very little about Mori’s character. However, from what I understood of him, I think that he found out about his ability after longing for a companion or, better, the need to manipulate someone. I believe he really felt the need to have a person that would do everything he wanted with the personality and physical appearance he wanted. And this resulted in Elise. But I would be really interested to read more if Asagiri would give us content. PLEASE ASAGIRI, MAKE US HAPPY!

Akutagawa

Regarding Rashomon, I truly can’t think of something peaceful. We don’t know much about Aku’s past, so I imagine that something similar to Kyoko or Atsushi’s situation happened. Like one day he just killed a very dear friend of his or someone else because he could not control his ability. And after that he left everything behind, wandering like a homeless and then he was ‘rescued’ by the mafia. Finding comfort somehow in Dazai’s figure because he felt they were on the same page.

Motojirou Kaiji

This is hilarious honestly. How the hell can someone discover that he can make bombs in lemons’ form and not die from them??? My only hc is that he was a psychopath also as a kid and tried to craft something dangerous, he shaped it as a lemon because it was fun and then ruined a whole room of his house. However he had no scars and made the whole process over and over again until he hadn’t a house anymore. If you want, we can also think that his parents remained killed from that but he never really cared for human life in the first place, it was just a scientific experiment after all. Just to remain with the psychopath attitude.

Others

Edgar Allan Poe

Poe is always seen as composed. But when it comes to literature he is not anymore. So how about in his college days, he challenged a schoolmate in demonstrating he was really more intelligent than him, and because of this he activated his ability by mistake? Like ‘do you really think you understand it all? Well then, resolve this!’ the ability activates and both of them are in a whole different place, none of them understands what is happening. And they just wait hours before it comes to their mind that they should try to look around and do something.

Ango

I think that very little kid Ango would consider normal to just know what happened to the objects he touched. Like it was completely normal for him to tell stories to her mother that he SAW and his mother just praised him for his imagination. It went on like this until middle school, when others started to avoid him because of his crazy stories and he realized it was not normal after all and that he should stop telling others everything he saw.
